The next meeting of the Alvarado Chamber of Commerce will be Thursday, March 1st at noon at the Alvarado ISD Admin Bldg. On the agenda are the status of the job fair planned for April 26th, as well as a report on our website and Facebook. Lisa Hicks from Meals on Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties will be our featured speaker, adddressing the services that Meals on Wheels provide and the impact they have on our community.
If you would like to reserve a meal, please let us know by 9:00 a.m. on February 29th. There is not a set charge for the meal, but you may make a donation back to Meals on Wheels to cover the cost. Lisa will also be providing the lunch, which will consist of:

Chamber of Commerce president Jason Reynolds, left, presents Alvarado High School football coach Jeff Dixon with the Alvaradoan of the Year award Thursday evening during the Chamber s annual banquet. (Candy McMichen)Having brought a community together in support of its high school football team, Coach Jeff Dixon was named Alvaradoan of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce Thursday evening.
The Chamber’s annual banquet was held in Alvarado ISD’s Administration Building. Johnson County Pipe was named as Business of the Year and Johnson County Pioneers and Old Settlers Association received special recognition for its community service and hours of volunteerism. Randy Mac entertained with a comical rendition of a Freddy Fender song and proceeded to explain how to become your own ‘granpa” in another. Students from the AHS Family Career and Community Leaders Association served drinks and refills for the close to 60 in attendance. Italian food catered by Benny’s of Alvarado included lasagna, tortellini and baked ziti.
The Chamber’s purpose is to improve Alvarado’s overall business climate and quality of life through sponsorships of programs that promote, facilitate and stimulate economic growth, civic participation and business advocacy. Alvarado’s Chamber is led by its board of directors which is president Jason Reynolds, vice president Steve Garcia, treasurer Clint Davis, secretary Leanna Cowan and board members Jerry Pritchard, Tammie Lile, John Percifield and Rocky Biggs. The chamber meets at noon every first Thursday of the month at the Alvarado Public Library.
